Ford’s iconic ST and RS performance badges, known for their legacy in models like the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, and Focus RS, could soon make a return – this time with an electric twist. Although the Focus ST and Fiesta ST have been phased out in the U.S., there’s a chance we could see these sporty variants return in the form of electric vehicles.
Ford’s European product marketing chief, Jan Herzon, shared his enthusiasm with Autocar, stating that Ford would “love an ST or RS variant” of its electric models. While there’s no confirmed timeline for these variants, Herzon hinted that the next-generation Puma Gen-E might be the one to sport the ST badge. He further suggested that a sportier electric crossover is “definitely coming,” potentially in the following model cycle.

The shift towards electric power might breathe new life into Ford’s performance sub-brands, with the Puma Gen-E potentially leading the charge. Currently, the Puma ST is available in Europe, and an all-electric version, the Puma Gen-E, is expected to be the first recipient of the much-anticipated ST treatment.
The Puma has become a key player for Ford in Europe, especially after the discontinuation of the Fiesta city hatchback and a drop in Focus sales. It seems logical for Ford to focus its resources on a model with strong market potential. However, Herzon stopped short of confirming when a performance-oriented version of the Puma Gen-E or a sportier iteration of the Mustang Mach-E might make its debut on the market
