BMW Reaches Milestone: Seven Million Vehicles Assembled in the U.S.
Historic BMW ALPINA XB7 Joins Brand’s Legacy at Spartanburg Plant
Spartanburg, South Carolina – April 30, 2025 — BMW Manufacturing has reached a major production milestone in the United States, marking the assembly of its seven millionth vehicle at the company’s Spartanburg plant. The honor goes to a meticulously crafted BMW ALPINA XB7, finished in striking ALPINA Green Metallic and powered by a 631-horsepower 4.4-liter Bi-Turbo V8 engine.
This landmark vehicle will not be sold to customers. Instead, it will join the BMW Historic Collection, commemorating over three decades of U.S. manufacturing excellence. The XB7 was finalized in April following a series of bespoke enhancements by Plant Spartanburg’s exclusive ALPINA team — including signature ALPINA aerodynamic elements, unique interior detailing, and commemorative badging.
“This stunning ALPINA XB7 exemplifies the innovation, craftsmanship, and dedication of our team and partners,” said Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. “For over 30 years, we’ve built a legacy in South Carolina, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together. As we look to the future, we’re preparing to enter a new era of electric mobility.”
A Symbol of Precision and Performance
The seven millionth vehicle showcases BMW’s commitment to luxury performance and attention to detail. Highlights include 23-inch ALPINA CLASSIC wheels, Tartufo Full Merino Leather interior, ALPINA Walnut Nature Black trim, Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof, and second-row captain’s chairs. A hand-stitched steering wheel with ALPINA’s signature blue and green accents completes the exclusive design.
Production of the milestone vehicle capped off a successful year at the Spartanburg facility, which built nearly 400,000 BMWs in 2024, exporting over half to 120 countries. In fact, nearly 50% of all BMWs sold in the U.S. last year were manufactured at this plant.
BMW’s Investment in the Future
BMW Group is investing more than $1.7 billion to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint. This includes $1 billion to prepare Spartanburg for full-scale electric vehicle production and $700 million for a new high-voltage battery plant in nearby Woodruff. By 2030, Spartanburg will produce at least six fully electric BMW models, while continuing to build plug-in hybrids and combustion-powered vehicles on the same line.
With over $14.8 billion invested in South Carolina since 1992, BMW Manufacturing remains the company’s largest production facility globally, assembling more than 1,500 vehicles daily. The plant plays a critical role in meeting global demand for BMW’s X model lineup, including top-selling M Performance and hybrid variants.
