Ford initially set the record last year with a 6:57.685 lap, making it the first American production vehicle to break the seven-minute barrier at the legendary Nürburgring circuit. However, the automaker wasn’t satisfied and promised to return with a faster time.
Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, stated after the first record: “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.” True to his word, Ford delivered on that promise with an even more impressive performance.

Updates to the powertrain calibration, chassis, and aero setup, combined with a reworked ABS and traction control system, played crucial roles in shaving off those valuable seconds.
