Ford’s commitment to pushing the limits of performance has once again paid off. The Mustang GTD, an American production car designed to challenge the world’s best, has shattered its own Nürburgring lap time by over five seconds, posting an impressive 6 minutes, 52.072 seconds.
This new time solidifies the Mustang GTD’s place as the fourth-fastest production sports car to ever conquer the Green Hell. Ford initially set the record last year with a 6:57.685 lap, making it the first American production vehicle to break the seven-minute barrier at the legendary Nürburgring circuit. However, the automaker wasn’t satisfied and promised to return with a faster time.

Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, stated after the first record: “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.” True to his word, Ford delivered on that promise with an even more impressive performance.
So, what made the difference this time? Ford attributes the improved time to a series of technical refinements. Updates to the powertrain calibration, chassis, and aero setup, combined with a reworked ABS and traction control system, played crucial roles in shaving off those valuable seconds. The refinements made the car more responsive and stable under the extreme conditions of the Nürburgring, one of the most unforgiving circuits in the world.
The result? A lap that beats even some of the most renowned supercars on the market. The Mustang GTD now outruns the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Ferrari 296 GTB, and the Lamborghini Aventador SV, proving that American engineering can compete on the world’s toughest tracks.
The Mustang GTD is far from a typical muscle car. Ford engineers have gone to extraordinary lengths to make it a true performance machine, incorporating a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, a carbon fiber torque tube, and a semi-active suspension developed by Multimatic. The result is a car that delivers track-ready performance while maintaining the iconic Mustang character.
For customers, the Mustang GTD promises not only an incredible driving experience but also bragging rights as they drive the fourth-fastest production sports car at the Nürburgring. With each lap, Ford continues to prove that it is more than capable of taking on the world’s best.
