From F1 to GT3: Max Verstappen’s Secret Spin in a Ferrari 296 GT3

Max Verstappen Goes Incognito for GT3 Test with Ferrari at the Nürburgring

While many Formula 1 drivers took advantage of a quiet week to unwind, Max Verstappen opted for something a bit more exhilarating — slipping behind the wheel of a Ferrari 296 GT3 at the Nürburgring, and doing so in total secrecy.

The four-time F1 world champion joined a test session for the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, blending in under the alias “Franz Hermann” to avoid attracting attention. Although the Dutchman initially kept the outing under wraps, he later revealed details through his own social media channels, much to the surprise — and delight — of fans.

Verstappen’s growing interest in GT racing is no secret. Through his own Verstappen.com Racing team, he has become an active figure in the GT World Challenge, participating in various test sessions and supporting the development of the Ferrari 296 GT3. His recent Nürburgring appearance is the latest example of that passion in action.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has previously acknowledged Verstappen’s enthusiasm for racing beyond Formula 1. Speaking to Goodwood, Horner noted, “Max is his own man… He enjoys GT cars, simulators, LMP racing. He’s very old school in that way — he just wants to drive.”

Horner also hinted that Verstappen’s love for racing may one day lead him away from Formula 1 altogether. “Formula 1 doesn’t define him. He’s here because he loves it, but if that passion fades, he won’t hesitate to move on — even if that means switching to GT cars full-time.”

Verstappen’s undercover test serves as a reminder of his pure love for motorsport — and perhaps a preview of what his post-F1 career could look like.
