Mercedes Eyes Momentum at Imola: Optimism and Upgrades Drive Team Forward

As the Formula One calendar makes its much-anticipated return to Europe, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola marks the start of an intense triple-header—and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is ready to rise to the challenge.

With four podiums from the first six races of 2025, Mercedes currently sits second in the Constructors’ standings. But according to Team Principal Toto Wolff, the Silver Arrows aren’t resting on their early-season achievements.

Toto’s Imola Preview:
‘Progress Made, But Work to do’
Reflecting on the Season So Far

“We’re a quarter of the way through the season now,” Toto explains. “It’s clear that we’ve taken a step forward compared to last year. The W16 is a more stable and predictable machine, which has allowed us to consistently compete at the front.”

Despite the strong start, Wolff remains realistic about the road ahead. “Four podiums are a solid foundation, but we know there’s more to do if we want to fight for wins week in, week out.”

Pushing Ahead with Key Upgrades

Imola also kicks off the first major development phase of the year for Mercedes. The team has been hard at work at their Brackley and Brixworth facilities, preparing a wave of updates designed to unlock further performance from the W16.

“This European leg gives us a good window to introduce improvements,” says Wolff. “We’ll be rolling out a number of upgrades over the next few races, starting here at Imola.”

However, Toto acknowledges that success is never guaranteed in such a tightly-contested field. “Formula One is a moving target. Other teams are evolving just as fast, so staying ahead means relentless focus and execution.”

Home Race Spotlight: A Special Moment for Kimi

Imola brings extra meaning for Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli. The young Italian will enjoy his first home Grand Prix just a short drive from his hometown of Bologna—an emotional and symbolic milestone in his blossoming career.

“It’s a proud moment for Kimi and for all of us,” says Toto. “The local support is going to be huge, but he’s a cool-headed competitor. He and George are both laser-focused on delivering the best possible result.”

As the paddock gears up for a pivotal European stretch, Mercedes is blending cautious optimism with hard-nosed determination. The path to victory in Formula One is never simple—but at Imola, the Silver Arrows are charging forward.
