George Russell Takes Commanding Victory at the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix

George Russell delivered a flawless performance at the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, claiming his first win of the season and securing a major breakthrough for Mercedes, who also celebrated a double podium finish.

Starting from pole, Russell controlled the race from lights to flag, holding off a late charge from Max Verstappen, who finished just 0.228 seconds behind. The victory marked Russell’s fourth career win in Formula 1 and his first trip to the top step of the podium this year.

Joining them on the podium was rookie sensation Kimi Antonelli, who stunned the paddock by finishing third and earning his first F1 podium. The young Italian was overcome with emotion after crossing the line, shouting “Oh my God!” on team radio before unleashing a few less polite words in celebration.

The final laps were filled with drama as Oscar Piastri narrowly avoided retirement after a controversial on-track clash with teammate Lando Norris, who was forced to retire. Piastri limped home in fourth place ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who claimed solid points in P5 and P6.

Fernando Alonso added to Aston Martin’s tally with a seventh-place finish, while Nico Hülkenberg continued his impressive form by finishing eighth. The top ten was rounded out by Esteban Ocon (Haas) and Carlos Sainz Jnr (Williams).
