Ford has unveiled the electric Mustang Mach-E NASCAR Prototype in the United States.

A brief statement says that the lowered Mach-E demonstrator features components from the current Cup Series cars, including suspension, steering, brakes and wheels. It also uses carbon fiber to reduce weight.

Ford didn’t reveal all the specs for its prototype, but it did say it has three motors and a 78 kWh battery pack. This is the same setup as the ABB NASCAR EV prototype, which has 1,000 kW/1,360 hp.

The special Mach-E gets graphics reminiscent of a race car for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series. It also has a large rear wing, a roll cage, and a driving position that’s moved back.

Ford also announced a return to the top class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) – and the 24 Hours of Le Mans – in the 2027 season.

The company is working on the LMDh hypercar, aiming to achieve its first overall victory at Le Mans since 1969.

Ford Performance will lead “a full factory team entering the FIA WEC with the aim of once again facing the most demanding race – the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
