Ford has confirmed that the Mustang, which celebrates its 60th birthday last year, will remain in the (ever-shrinking) company of cars powered by V8 engines. While the American companies Chevrolet and Dodge thought differently, because they no longer offer “muscle” car fans the famous Camaro and Challenger models under whose long front hoods “thunder” V8 engines, at Ford they decided to resist the general trend of reducing working volumes and the number of cylinders.
Their answer to the “muscle car” story, which has meanwhile reached its seventh edition and is celebrating its 60th birthday this year, will continue to be available in combination with a 5-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 engine that (depending on the market and environmental standards) develops from 486 to 500 “horses”.
For years, the best-selling sports car globally will soon be offered in the GTD version, which was inspired by the new racing Mustang GT3 with which Ford returned to the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) this season. In that case, the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that will power the most expensive Mustang to date will have around 800 hp.
And here is the reason to calm down the spirits around the electric Mustang Mach-E, about which spears continue to break, because many fans of Ford’s famous “galloping horse” agreed to a less wasteful 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine (315 HP), but they never accepted that the name Mustang is also used for a crossover model that is driven only by electric motors.
