Hamilton Backs Vasseur: “He’s the Man to Take Ferrari to the Top”

Lewis Hamilton has expressed strong confidence in Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur, amidst speculation regarding the Frenchman’s future at the iconic team. As Ferrari navigates a turbulent 2025 season, Hamilton firmly stated that Vasseur is the right person to guide the team to success.

Since joining Ferrari after a long and decorated stint at Mercedes, Hamilton has been adjusting to new surroundings. While his teammate Charles Leclerc has recently secured two podium finishes, challenges remain for the Scuderia both on and off the track.

Speaking during Thursday’s media briefings in Montreal ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton addressed the swirling rumors about Vasseur’s position, calling them unfounded and reaffirming his full support.

“I love working with Fred. He played a huge role in bringing me to Ferrari, and I’ll always be grateful for that,” Hamilton said. “We’re pushing hard behind the scenes. It’s not perfect, but I’m here for the long-term project—and Fred is a key part of that.”

The seven-time world champion dismissed the speculation as “nonsense,” emphasizing that Vasseur’s leadership is not in question from his perspective. “We’re going through necessary changes, and naturally there’s pressure. But I believe Fred is the one who can take us to the top,” he added.

When asked whether a change in leadership could disrupt Ferrari’s momentum, Hamilton was clear: “As far as I know, that’s not on the table. It would be a mistake. Introducing new leadership takes time, and the impact can be destabilizing. I’m here to win with Fred, and he has my full backing.”

Hamilton also reiterated his own commitment to the team’s long-term goals. “I’ve only just begun my journey with Ferrari. I’m in it for the long haul, and I have no doubts about what we’re building together.”

Looking ahead to the race weekend at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Hamilton is focused on bouncing back from a difficult outing in Spain. He revealed that both he and Leclerc suffered from technical issues during the last Grand Prix, which severely affected their performance.

“It was one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had in a race car,” Hamilton admitted. “We discovered the issue afterward, and while the team prefers we don’t go into details, it was a relief to understand what went wrong.”

As Ferrari continues to refine their performance, Hamilton remains optimistic. With his unwavering support for Vasseur and a long-term vision for success, the British driver is determined to help return the team to the top of Formula 1.
