Lynx resurrects the first generation Ford GT

Lynx Motors and Graham Rahal Performance have announced plans to produce a road-legal version of the Ford Matech Concepts GT1 Le Mans race car. Matech Concepts has since closed down and Lynx has acquired its assets, and is now transforming the first-generation chassis into a stunning hypercar.

Lynx hasn’t revealed many details, except that the road-going GT1 will have a wider stance, carbon bodywork and aerodynamic improvements. Judging by the photos, we can expect a prominent front splitter, spoilers and a large rear wing.

Less is known about the interior, but renders show an upgraded cabin with a new steering wheel, what looks like a wireless phone charger, and two-tone leather upholstery. The interior also features carbon fiber accents.

Only 28 examples will be built at the Zionsville plant, and each will be powered by a supercharged V8 engine that develops 1,217 horsepower. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission from Ricardo.

While the GT1 sounds interesting, the Lynx website mentions Gulf and Eau Rouge versions. It seems that these are part of the earlier plan, as the brochure says that the Gulf, worth $ 1,700,000, was supposed to have a twin-turbo V8 engine with more than 1,217 horsepower. Gulf was to offer two versions for the track with the 1,512 hp Roush engine. On the other hand, the Eau Rouge version was supposed to have 1,419 hp.
