McLaren has become the first team to reveal its 2019 car, the MCL39, without any prior announcement.
The defending constructors’ champions have released photos from a filming day at Silverstone, where Lando Norris completed the first drive. Oscar Piastriwill also be behind the wheel later. The car has been painted in a special livery as it was agreed that the final liveries would not be released before the group presentation on 18 February.
“It’s great to get our MCL39 out on track for the first time and show the culmination of all the hard work the team has put in,” said McLaren chief executive Zak Brown, who described today as a major milestone in their title bid.
“We have to be realistic – all the teams have made progress over the winter. Last year highlighted how much the grid has become more compact, which is great for the sport. We believe we have improved on the championship-winning MCL38, but we won’t know where we stand in the standings until qualifying in Australia.”
