The 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package: A Retro-Inspired Tribute to the Fox Body Era

Ford is turning back the clock with its all-new 2026 Mustang FX Package, drawing direct inspiration from one of the most beloved chapters in Mustang history — the iconic Fox Body era (1987–1993). Making its debut at the Carlisle Ford Nationals, this special appearance package brings vintage styling cues into the modern age, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge Mustang performance.

A Nod to the Past

The FX Package is exclusively available for the GT Premium trim, in both coupe and convertible formats. Buyers can pair it with either the standard six-speed manual or the available 10-speed automatic transmission — and it’s also compatible with or without the GT Performance Package.

Ford’s homage is immediately visible through several design elements that pay tribute to third-generation Mustangs:

Oxford White Accents: From the 5.0 and GT badges to the grille nostrils and taillights, the FX Package features striking white exterior accents. These elements are also set to be sold individually through Ford Performance Parts.

19-Inch Retro Wheels: Choose between split five-spoke or Fox Body–inspired wheels, both finished in Oxford White and sporting GT-branded center caps.

Retro-Inspired Branding: A vintage “Mustang GT” script appears on the rear glass, center caps, and the dash badge — all mimicking the style of 1980s Mustangs.

Interior Throwback with a Modern Twist

Inside, the FX Package continues the retro aesthetic:

Plaid-Style Perforated Leather Seats: Inspired by the ’80s interior patterns, the new FX seats feature a plaid insert design combined with City Silver and Adriatic Blue stitching.

Available on both the standard seats and the optional Recaro sport seats, the design adds an authentic retro flair without sacrificing modern comfort or materials.

Colorful Seatbelt Options: Add even more personalization with seatbelt color choices, including International Orange, Prime Blue, or Black with a Red Stripe.

Flashback Paint Options

Two bold exterior colors debut with the FX Package:

Adriatic Blue Metallic, reminiscent of the vibrant teal used on original Fox Bodies.

Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat, a fan-favorite color making its return to the Mustang lineup.

Performance Backbone

Under the hood, nothing changes — and that’s a good thing. The FX Package is built on the GT Premium model, which means it comes standard with Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8, delivering over 480 horsepower. Whether you opt for a manual or automatic, the FX Mustang promises a thrilling drive with a heavy dose of retro style.

When Can You Get It?

Ford hasn’t yet released official pricing for the FX Package or the 2026 Mustang lineup. However, order banks are scheduled to open later in June 2025, with full pricing expected to be announced shortly before that.

Whether you’re a longtime Fox Body fan or simply love the mix of retro design and modern muscle, the 2026 Mustang FX Package is shaping up to be one of the most unique and collectible Mustangs in recent years. Be sure to check it out if you’re attending the Carlisle Ford Nationals or keep an eye on your local Ford dealership this summer.
