Volkswagen Champions Inclusion in Soccer with New Athlete Ambassadors and “Welcome To Our Turf” Campaign

Reston, VA – June 11, 2025 — Volkswagen of America has unveiled an expanded initiative to promote diversity and accessibility in soccer, announcing a new group of U.S. Soccer athletes as ambassadors. This move comes in tandem with the launch of its “Welcome To Our Turf” campaign, kicking off a year-long countdown to the Summer 2026 tournament.

The new athlete lineup features prominent U.S. Men’s National Team star Christian Pulisic, U.S. Women’s National Team defender Naomi Girma, U.S. Deaf National Team members Raul Silva and Emily Spreeman, and U.S. Beach Soccer National Team captain Alessandro “Sandro” Canale. Together, they represent the rich diversity of American soccer, both in backgrounds and playing formats.

The campaign’s centerpiece is a dynamic anthem video featuring not only these ambassadors but also legendary U.S. soccer figure Landon Donovan and Ryan Connolly from the U.S. Power Soccer National Team. It highlights soccer’s universal appeal—from sandy beaches to gym floors and neighborhood fields—emphasizing that the game belongs to everyone.

“Soccer is for every player, regardless of where they play or who they are,” said Rachael Zaluzec, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience at Volkswagen of America. “These athletes exemplify the talent and diversity that make soccer such a powerful global sport, and we’re proud to spotlight their journeys.”

Meet the Ambassadors:

Christian Pulisic: As a U.S. Men’s National Team captain and one of the most accomplished American soccer players, Pulisic continues to inspire young athletes nationwide. Hailing from Hershey, PA, he made history as the youngest American to score in a World Cup qualifier.

Naomi Girma: An emerging star for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Girma is celebrated for her leadership, technical skills, and off-field advocacy, particularly around mental health and equity in sports. She was named U.S. Soccer’s Female Player of the Year in 2023.

Raul Silva: A central defender on the U.S. Men’s Deaf National Team, Silva’s career reflects perseverance and dedication. Born in New Jersey, he now champions inclusivity and accessibility within the sport.

Emily Spreeman: Representing the U.S. Women’s Deaf National Team, Spreeman has made a name for herself with crucial goals in international competition. Based in Southern California, she advocates for greater visibility and opportunity for Deaf and adaptive athletes.

Alessandro (Sandro) Canale: A veteran of over 100 matches with the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team, Canale is known for his flair on and off the sand. Residing in Venice Beach, he brings energy and creativity to the game.

Since joining forces with U.S. Soccer in 2019, Volkswagen has consistently invested in programs promoting access, such as youth training camps, technological innovations like the CHAMP robot, and jersey designs incorporating American Sign Language. The brand’s latest efforts further its commitment to supporting soccer in every form it takes.

“Representation matters,” said Girma. “This campaign is about opening doors and recognizing every player’s place in the game.”

Pulisic added, “I’m honored to help spotlight the incredible diversity within soccer. Whether it’s on turf, grass, sand, or court—this game belongs to all of us.”
